Mother Teresa Biography

Man has existed on earth for a very long time. But very few people devote their entire lives to serving others. They devote their lives to easing others’ sorrow. Their life’s work consists of lessening their suffering and spreading joy. Among the few was Mother Teresa. She had devoted her entire life to promoting others’ well-being. She developed into a helper of the sick, disabled, and needy. She will always be a global icon.

Let’s examine her path to compassion and humanity in her life.

Birth & Early Years

On August 26, 1910, Mother Teresa was born. Skopje, the current capital of the Republic of Macedonia, is where she was born. She was a Roman Catholic nun and missionary who was Albanian and Indian. Mother Teresa’s mom’s name was Dranafile Bojaxhiu, & her father was Nikola Bojaxhiu. Her dad was an entrepreneur. He was a seller of pharmaceuticals as well as a construction contractor.

The Dramatic Event

Her dad Nikola Bojaxhiu, unfortunately, passed away when she was just 9 years old. The money was stolen by Nicola’s business partners after he passed away. Because of all these factors, including the ongoing world war, his household was also experiencing financial difficulties at the time.

The most tragic time for her & her family occurred during that time. But Dranafile Bojaxhiu, her mother, was a formidable lady. She was never dejected. She took on all the duties necessary to provide for her family, including cooking.

She began by running a modest business wherein she sold embroidered clothing and other hand-made clothing to support her family.

An Empathetic Heart

Her real name wasn’t Mother Teresa. Her real name was Agnes. She was a lady with compassion and love in her heart from the day she was born. Agnes’ heart was incredibly compassionate from a young age. She was excessively religious and dedicated to philanthropy from a young age.

Her mother instilled in her such wonderful ideals. In addition to always praying for others, Agnes & her mother gave as much assistance to others as they could. Dranafile frequently provided others with food, clothing, and other necessities.

Teenage Years

In the Albanian language, Agnes completed her education at a private Catholic school. When she was younger, she had great beauty. Because she had brown eyes, she was endearing and lovely. She was also an outstanding student who often received the top grade.

In both her high school and college, Agnes remained the most likable person. She was also among her college’s top gymnasts.

A choice or the pivotal moment

Teresa’s life’s purpose and trajectory shifted as she grew older. She was actively participating in church events. Her upbringing had a significant impact on her. Her mom also had a significant influence on her. Father Franjo Jambrekovic, a priest, met with Agnes in 1925.

However, the Father held the opinion that one cannot assist others while engaging in materialistic pursuits. Agnes was greatly impacted by Father’s words, and she decided to simplify her life.

Agnes decided to become a nun and devote her life to helping people after receiving her degree. A nun is a female paragon of virtue who takes pledges to be obedient, chaste, and dedicated to live their entire life for the poor & suffering people.

A Painful Goodbye

Dranafile was devastated when Agnes spoke to her mother about her choice. Even though she had always been helpful, she made a big choice to remain a missionary nun. And after a little while, Drana understood that Agnes’ life was meant for this.

Agnes ultimately bid her siblings and mother farewell when she was 18 years old.

She decided to join the Sisters of Loreto after departing from Skopje. Agnes and other missionaries left Ireland on December 1st, 1928. They were on their way to India aboard the Marcha, a sailing vessel. After traveling via the Mediterranean, Arabian, and Red Seas, they finally landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Then, everyone traveled to India.

Agnes had already begun her preparations to become a nun when she arrived in India. Three stages make up the process of becoming a nun:

1. The Novices stage is the first: Around May 23, 1929, Agnes officially entered the novice stage, which is the first level. where she received her training for aiding others.

2. The postulant is the next stage: This part of the training time is the religious phase.

3. Nun is the third & last stage: They all had the option to choose a new name when they decided to become nuns. Agnes then adopted the name “Teresa.” As a result, Agnes of Skopje became Sister Teresa of India in this manner.

Teresa as a Teacher

Teresa made her first vow of celibacy in 1931. Teresa was moved by her organization to Darjeeling, where she worked as a convent school teacher. She instructed students in math, geography, and religion. After arriving in India, Mother Teresa had several difficulties.

She wasn’t fluent in English. She first acquired language skills in Hindi and English. She continued to assist those in need while doing all of this. After a month, Teresa moved from Darjeeling to Calcutta. Now she began working as a teacher at St. Mary High School.

Challenges

A highly important period also included the partition of India. Then Teresa and the other missionaries assisted everyone individually. Poor children held a special place in Teresa’s heart. Immediately following India’s independence, every citizen was dealing with economic hardship. After the division, Teresa established several camps for refugees to assist the kids.

Legacy and Death

She suffered several health problems as she grew older. She was receiving care from Eastern Country medical professionals. Even so, after a while, her organs — including her kidneys and lungs — had ceased functioning. Mother Teresa passed away on September 5, 1997, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, at the age of 87.

The greatest person of the 20th century is Mother Teresa. She coordinated her organizational and management abilities with her vision of humanity and empathy. She was able to tackle worldwide issues and established missionaries thanks to all these qualities.
